Counselling from your own home via Zoom

Hi! I'm Mercedes, Spanish by birth and have lived in Cambridge, England for nearly two decades. I love working with people. I am a fully qualified and MBACP-accredited therapist, trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), specifically in Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT) and am also trained in Humanistic Counselling and Hypnotherapy.

I offer a flexible approach, in adapting to your needs and therapy goals and see each client as unique. My therapeutic approach is integrative in nature, drawing upon multiple theoretical frameworks to tailor to each individual. I recognise that each person's unique needs and experiences require a personalised and adaptable approach to support their journey towards healing and personal growth.

I can help you explore the past to understand meaningful or suppressed memories, rules, events, and feelings that went along with them, using different interventions including; Inner-child, Parts work, Attachment Theory and Transactional Analysis. I can help you if you would like to work on your thoughts, feelings and behaviours using CBT/REBT and an integration of different approaches (ACT, CF, Schema, Paradoxical Approaches).

I have experience in working with neurodiverse clients and including but not limited to those suffering from trauma, grief, relationship issues, work-related issues, self-worth, communication, anger, guilt, shame, low mood, and anxiety.

One step at a time

Realising that you have a problem or a challenge is often the crucial first step in seeking therapy or any form of help. This self-awareness and acknowledgment of your need for support can be a significant turning point on the path to personal growth and healing.

Once you recognise the issue, reaching out to a therapist or counsellor can be the next important step in addressing and resolving the challenges you're facing. Therapy is a gradual process. Initially establishing a trusting relationship, discussing concerns and setting goals for therapy. Then, delving into thoughts, emotions, and behaviours to understand the root causes of your challenges.

Another step is to learn how to manage your difficulties or to improve your mental health. Then apply what has been learnt in real-life situations, gradually making changes and testing new behaviours and thought patterns.

When the therapy goals have been achieved therapy may conclude. However, many people continue with occasional sessions to maintain progress or address new challenges. Taking therapy one step at a time allows for a gradual and sustainable transformation. It's important to remember that progress may not always be linear, and setbacks can occur. Nonetheless, with commitment and support, therapy can lead to positive changes and personal growth.

Mercedes is an amazing therapist! I was in a really stuck place in my life and relationship and she helped me to see things differently. Eight sessions turned my life around and my relationship is thriving. I am forever grateful for this.

Mercedes came into my life highly recommended and I concur! The interactive approach to counselling really helped me to gain the skills and toolkit required to manage my issues now and into the future; the sessions came to a natural end when I required no further assistance at this point in my life and to quote Mercedes I am ‘flying’. Feel so positive and relieved that the core issue of lack of assertiveness was identified (who knew?) addressed and worked on. Big thanks Mercedes. If I ever need help again I’m coming back!

I cannot recommend Mercedes highly enough. In just a few sessions she worked with me to show me how to change the negative emotions that had been hanging over me for a few years and to stop them taking over my life again. Mercedes is very easy to talk to and I wouldn’t hesitate to (and I have) recommend her to anyone needing help.
